Character Information

Name: Phaedra Lamb
Canon: Vampire: the Requiem 2e OC
Canon Point: 10 years after her Embrace
Age: 29 (looks 20)

History: (CW: mention of cult abuse (not graphic or detailed), standard Vampire: the Requiem warnings)

Angelica Lamb was born into a cult. They were a fairly small group, who lived as one large ‘family’ on a farm in rural Pennsylvania. Growing up, she was indoctrinated into the religious philosophy of the cult (a Christian apocalyptic death cult sort of deal), until she was a teenager and her latent psychic powers began to manifest. Her uncle decided to exploit Angelica’s talents (omen sensitivity, precognition), and named her as a prophet. And so she served until she was twenty years old, never allowed to venture into the wider world. She honed her psychic abilities, though, gaining a partial understanding of the occult through a religious lens.

In 2011, a vampire named Atalanta Hall (Mekhet, Circle of the Crone) discovered the existence of the cult and began to investigate, thinking she might be able to make them a personal Herd. However, when she learned about Angelica’s psychic abilities, she decided she’d rather Embrace her as a childe than have the whole cult to feed on. She rescued Angelica from her family in the middle of the night, bringing her to the city of Philadelphia to Embrace and teach her. It was at this point that Angelica changed her name to Phaedra, a reference to Greek mythology like her sire’s name was.

Despite having grown up with no access to books, TV, a proper education while growing up, when given the opportunity to learn, she did so with a fierce hunger. She quickly became known in the local Circle of the Crone as an expert in divinationary techniques and Cruac rituals for gaining information and speaking to spirits. During this time, she did manage to make a few enemies for being more outspoken than a neonate ought to have been, and it was one of these enemies who let the location of Atalanta’s and Phaedra’s haven out to local hunters.

While Phaedra survived the night the hunters attacked, Atalanta sacrificed herself to ensure that would be possible, leaving the neonate with very little political power in a city where she had powerful enemies. Rather than try to take that head on, Phaedra fled to Chicago, and spent several years integrating herself into the court there, where the Ordo Dracul and Circle of the Crone shared power.

Personality:
Curious/Analytical: Since becoming Kindred and being encouraged to learn and grow by her sire, Phaedra’s approached the world like it’s a puzzle. She asks a lot of questions, trying to approach situations with an inquisitive nature and think of angles others might not be considering yet. She has a very flexible mind, and is unlikely to assume anything is impossible.

There is a negative aspect to this, in that Phaedra can occasionally treat people like puzzles to be solved as well, failing to recognize when they want to set boundaries or avoid discussing some aspect of their past or how their mind works.

Whimsical: Phaedra’s childhood was very much ass, and she never experienced the freedom to be a kid that most people did. This has led to her finding ways to make up for it in her adult life. She’s someone who’ll run around barefoot in the grass or climb a tree for the heck of it, and she enjoys games and sports that others might look down on. This isn’t to say that she has a childish mindset, per se, but that she’s willing to set aside her dignity for the sake of a good time.

Open: While it’s not quite accurate to say Phaedra never lies or tries to hide her thoughts, most of the time she’s very open about exactly what she’s thinking or feeling. If you’ve hurt her feelings, she’ll let you know. If you’re someone she’s fond of (a status which isn’t earned very quickly under most circumstances), she won’t be bashful about it. Her body language telegraphs her thoughts particularly well.

Bold: On the flipside of her being open, she can come off as somewhat abrasive, due to the fact that she operates with an expectation of a similar truth level from others around her. If she perceives that someone is being evasive or hiding things from her, she’s going to call it out without any shame. While previously she had Auspex to help her determine how honest others were being, she’s flying blind now, so there may be times where she’s completely off-base.

Spiteful: Given everything Phaedra has been through in her life (and unlife), she’s not always given to assuming good faith in others and can be snappy and often aims for people’s weak spots (as she perceives them) when in an argument. This doesn’t tend to extend to violence, especially without Vigor and Celerity to help her here, but she’s definitely someone who’s taken the scorched-earth approach with rivals in the past, cutting them down brutally with her words.

The prime example was the time she called a member of the Lancea et Sanctum a hypocrite who was only still following the Lance due to the sunk-cost fallacy in front of the whole court. She definitely affected his reputation, but there’s no mending that bridge.

Where and how did your character enter the Hedge? A blood sorcery ritual (Pool of Forbidden Truths) in the woods somewhere northwest of Chicago that went very wrong. While the ritual canonically involves reaching into the abyss for knowledge, because Phaedra was looking for information regarding an item she didn’t realize was tied to the fae, it instead reached into the Hedge.

And the Hedge reached back...

Skillsets: The highest skills on her sheet as it’s written are Occult, Investigation and Intimidation, with a specialty in the last (The Mortifying Ordeal of Being Known). She’s very much a sponge for knowledge, and is aware of lore from her world about the fae (though not how it matches up to the Gentry here).

Inventory:
- One deck of tarot cards (Rider-Waite)
- A ritual knife (not meant to actually cut things) with a knapped stone blade and a deer-antler handle
- Several pieces of silver jewelry, some set with moonstones
